Expected Commitment – Working in Office:
This internship will require up to 40 hours per week during the Summer 2022 semester. Interns will be expected to spend as much of their internship time as possible working in the office. However, due to the unpredictable nature of the ongoing pandemic, the manager may approve the intern to work a portion of their time from home if required
Support the Volvo Group Design team building a roadmap of future interior design layouts/features/functions aligned with company objectives and industry trends
Secure the technical feasibility and user experience standards of Volvo Group Design concepts and deliverables are valid.
Identify and propose solutions to conflicts between feature requirements and technical feasibility.
Secure that the Product Message and Brand Distinction is followed.
This internship will require up to 40 hrs./week during the summer
Support the Chief Designer Interior in pursuing advanced interior layouts and HMI
Work closely with the UX Design team (including Chief Designer and UX intern) to strengthen concepts
Work closely with Color, Materials and Finish Designer in a virtual and physical setting
Research and anticipate customer needs as well as industry technology trends
Bring a strong aesthetic aligned with the premium Volvo brand as well as the unique application of trucks
Help to define a timeline of future concepts to promote adopting future technologies
Support / assist in the development and construction of 3D digital models
Participate in Group Designs development process.
Support studio work by designing and prototyping various proposals to be used as mock-ups and validate Volvo Group Design proposals.
Must be willing to propose near-term feasible solution as well as far-reaching transportation solutions focused on interior design
Essential Skills and Required Experience:
Strong aesthetic sketching/rendering and presentation skills
Must be willing to work with Digital surface modelers and physical modelers on prototypes
Problem solving on a high level
Eager/positive attitude and willingness to adapt design theme based on critique
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software and Autodesk Alias
Knowledge of Gravity Sketch, Procreate, Unreal, Blender a plus
Minimum Education Requirements:
Applicant must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in Industrial/Transportation Design at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours of undergraduate studies prior to the start of the internship.
Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
