Design Engineer Mechanical

Volvo Group Australia has an opening for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the professional collegial team at Group Truck Technology. This is a permanent full time position.

In this role you will complete 3D mechanical design of components for truck installations. You will also assess installation demands and create unique solutions for complex areas. You will manage the life cycle of the parts being designed to ensure that they can be made, supplied to the production line, fitted in accordance with assembly guidelines and able to be maintained in service for many years.

In this position you can see yourself working on new truck propulsion platform developments like BEV and possibly others like Fuel Cell in the future. In addition design work on ICE engine truck platforms may be required.

About the role:
  • Develop and complete 3D complex mechanical engineering tasks in support of areas such as projects, factory issues, quality improvements and customer adaptions meeting standards, regulations and guidelines
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders regarding technical requirements for adaptation and installation and ensure a common and agreed target is maintained
  • Work in a cross functional team to gather various demands during the design process
  • Agile way of working and planning activities during design process
  • Regular follow up and reporting of task progress
  • Conduct design reviews to ensure QDCF
  • Create design release documentation in the Product Documentation Systems
  • Take ownership of the progress of the parts to ensure reliable manufacturing solution
  • Maintain a high level of technical knowledge
  • Contribute to the complete life cycle of electronic components and systems throughout the different stages
  • Investigate, discuss, and solve component or design issues identified during the assembly process in the factory
  • Contribute to quality improvement on component or designs in case of field issue reports
About you:
  • Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent
  • A minimum of (5) years' experience in heavy truck engineering
  • Extensive previous work experience in developing mechanical engineering projects
  • BEV vehicle and component knowledge can be beneficial
  • Training in and understanding of FEA principles
  • Sound knowledge of engineering systems
  • Strong communicator, both written and verbal
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize
  • Knowledge of Australian Design Rules and AS/NZS standards is desirable
  • Team player with a good work ethic and a flexible approach to work commitments.
  • 3D Cad design experience using CREO is highly desirable.
  • Experience with JIRA software is desirable
  • Intermediate user of Office 365 tools like Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word and Excel with the ability to learn new systems quickly
