Mission/purpose of the Job

The Lab Engineer develops tests and tests current products in the process, helps to implement new lab solutions, and maintains lab calibration and test records.
Key responsibilities/Accountabilities
  • Computer proficiency, including word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, and generating reports using standard software applications
  • Develop, operate & improve the industrial Lab process to ensure that our product complies with established standards & specifications.
  • Perform analysis of new, failed supplier & field parts for confirming the conformity status.
  • Develop competencies of the metallurgy team on the use of laboratory equipment, including destructive or non-destructive testing, as well as processes & standards.
  • Generates lab data test reports on metallurgical & technical expertise to internal customers.
  • Develop standard operating procedures for standardizing the metallurgy laboratory and Technical Cleanliness Laboratory activities.
  • Lead investigation of quality problems of a metallurgical nature by reporting findings & initiating corrective actions with the support of purchasing, engineering & production.
  • Perform a special manufacturing process audit to confirm compliance with standards – specifications.
  • In the project, ensure that the prerequisites related to metallurgy are communicated and addressed for readiness at the start of production.

Metallurgy Laboratory Engineer
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgy, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering.
Preferred experience and knowledge
  • Three to five years of experience in the operation of a Mechanical or Metallurgy test lab
  • Quality engineering experience is a plus.
  • Metal mechanical manufacturing experience.
  • Experience in a union environment
  • Experience in Power BI and Power Apps
Necessary technical/functional/language skills
  • Maintain a “Safety First” attitude.
  • Customer Focus: Understand the needs of internal and external customers
  • Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge in the field of metallurgy.
  • Ensure that the latest revisions of external standards are accessible online.
  • Communication and collaboration with stakeholders are the keys to this position.
  • Encourage Operational Excellence.
  • Strive for continuous improvement.
  • Needs to have a good understanding of the Volvo Group Businesses
