Design Engineer Mechanical - Contract

Volvo Group Australia has openings for Mechanical Design Engineers (2x) to join the professional collegial team at Group Truck Technology on a contract basis.

This role will be offered as a full-time, contract based position. You will work closely with the Engineering Team Leader Mechanical to ensure project schedules are maintained.

Although this role is a contractor based position, current Volvo project- and product portfolio and associated workload for coming years, expects a longer term involvement.

This role will see you complete 3D mechanical design of components for truck installations on our Volvo and/or Mack products. You will assess installation demands and create solutions for complex areas. You will manage the life cycle of the parts being designed to ensure that they can be made, supplied to the production line, fitted in accordance with assembly guidelines and able to be maintained in service for many years.

About the role:
  • Create 3D design solutions in a complex physical environment
  • Regular follow up and reporting of task progress
  • Create design release documentation
  • Take ownership of the progress of the parts to ensure reliable manufacturing solution
  • Work in a cross functional team to gather various demands during the design process
  • Communicate with stakeholders to ensure a common and agreed target is maintained
  • Investigate, discuss, and solve component or design issues identified during the assembly process in the factory
  • Contribute to quality improvement on component or designs in case of field issue reports
About you:
  • Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience in transport/automotive design is desirable
  • 3D Cad design experience using CREO. Other CAD experience is considered
  • Knowledge of Australian Design Rules and AS/NZS standards is desirable.
  • Experience with JIRA planning software is desirable
  • Intermediate user of Office 365 tools like Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word and Excel with the ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Strong communicator, both written and verbal
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize
  • Team player with a good work ethic and a flexible approach to work commitments.
