Group Trucks Operations encompasses all production of the Group’s engines and transmissions as well as all production of Volvo, Renault, Mack, and UD trucks. Group Trucks Operations also includes spare parts supplies to the Group’s customers as well as logistics.
Service Market Logistics (SML) is part of Group Trucks Operations. We have over 10,000 employees on more than 80 locations world-wide. Our job is to design, handle and optimize the supply chain for all Volvo Group brands and for selected customers within the automotive industry. The scope for Logistics Services includes making sure that management of material, warehouses and distribution ensures the availability of parts everywhere in the world. We make sure all service market logistics are delivered with world class operational excellence.
SML North America is a part of SML and manages logistics and delivery functions throughout North America (Canada, USA, and Mexico).
What is the job?
As the Transport Parts and Freight Forwarding Supervisor, you will coach Lean principles and apply operational and cost analysis with a keen attention to detail to ensure quality in our process. You will help drive continuous improvement in the areas of cost-effectiveness and environment consciousness. You’ll set, agree, and communicate goals, standards, and performance expectations in an open, straightforward and easily understandable way. You will coach the team to resolve escalations and act as the first point of contact when team members cannot resolve escalations on their own.
What will your day-to-day look like? You will continuously evaluate processes and take actions to ensure they are effective, efficient, and follow Lean principles. You will monitor results against set objectives and improve to ensure continued customer success, while applying a preventative and proactive approach. You will work independently and cross-functionally with analysis of Transport, Warehouse and Service Center data to ensure direct contribution to the profit of SML commercial results, while remaining focused on quality excellence and continuous process improvement. You will support Human Resource management (development) for all Transport Parts and Freight Forwarding team members and provide corrective action plans when necessary. You will participate in meetings as the Transport Management representative for SML to promptly implement sustainable improvements in our operations with Warehouse, Transport Purchasing, 3rd Party Transport Suppliers, Supply Chain Optimization, and other stakeholders etc. You will be able to provide backup coverage for all day to day activities within the Transport Parts and Freight Forwarding scope as necessary. You will carry after-hours cell phone and perform after-hours duties as necessary.
How is success measured?
KPIs and PIs for this role are based on targets related to the Transport Parts and Freight Forwarding team daily operational performance and productivity. We measure 3rd Party Service Provider’s ability to perform according to the Service Contracts and SOPs, focusing on operational performance, deviation reporting and resolution, and administrative and information quality. You will also impact the business through continuous improvement activities, measured through the Volvo Group Continuous Improvement Program.
Who are you?
Ideally, you hold a BS degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics Engineering or Business (although equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree), have 6 or more years of experience in logistics and/or warehouse facilities and certification in Six Sigma or Lean. At minimum, you will have 5 years of relevant experience in logistics/warehousing and Lean activities, as well as an advanced ability to apply Power BI, Excel, Visio, and Microsoft 365 automation tools to the position. You will also bring industry knowledge to the team, particularly in the areas of transport and export industry laws and regulations, mode of transports and the rules and regulations related to customs.
