You will be part of Data function within Digital & IT. Our goal is to unlock the power of data for the full Volvo Group to become a truly data-driven company! With data, the core component of our transformation journey, we will make the Volvo Group 2030 vision happen. We will take care of all the aspects of Data, how it is quality assured, documented, prepared, and analyzed with advanced tools, including Machine Learning. We developed Unified Data Platform on Ms Azure and it is in the center of our digital transformation.
In our data chapters we are focusing on building our skills and developing our people in the data related skills needed to excel in transforming data into value for our business. We will be supporting our employees in becoming highly skilled experts in data that can support all of Volvo Group to become a data driven company.

This is how you could make an impact
As Chapter Lead you will be the line manager for our data engineers in Poland and will directly coach and develop your team members in their growth journey. You will be involved in hands-on work focusing on data onboarding and processing to enable advanced analytics and machine learning with best practice tools and methods. You will be a part of the Data Engineers Chapter management team and report to the Head of Chapter Data Engineers. These will be your responsibilities:
  • You will be the line manager for your chapter members, with all the traditional responsibilities such as hiring, motivating, developing people, setting salaries, etc.
  • Identify current and future competence development needs and grow your team.
  • Hold frequent meetings with chapter members (weekly or bi-weekly) to understand the edge of their technical advancement.
  • Build Data Engineering community of experts and enable knowledge sharing across domains.
  • Work as a practitioner in your area of expertise.
  • Develop the working methods for data engineering.
  • Secure "external" input and best practice sharing in the community.

Who are you?
We believe you want to take your career to the next level, working with amazing people around the world. To be successful in this position we believe you have a university degree or equivalent, and several years of experience as a data engineering practitioner, as well as experience of leadership in line organizations or projects.
To succeed in this role, it is beneficial if you are experienced and understand technologies for the field like databases, data lakes and data pipelines. You have knowledge in leading technologies and frameworks, for example Spark/Databricks, CD/CI, DataOps, MLOps as well as more traditional ETL approaches and tools. You are experienced in the data engineering domain development as a practitioner that keeps up to date with the latest development.

The right candidate will be able to think and act strategically but also to operate and implement change tactically when required, dealing effectively with ambiguity, and managing changing priorities. You should be passionate about driving strategic & technological transformation in a business focused, fact-based, and collaborative way to achieve real impact. This role requires solid communication skills and a passion for leading, inspiring, and developing people.

In addition to this, you are a passionate believer in continuous learning. You should feel energized by working both independently and interdependently, have proven skills in cross-functional collaboration and thrive in managing, foster, and enable both the perform and the transform angles of the job.
