Volvo Group North America is seeking a Section Manager to lead our Chassis Engineering Team in Greensboro, NC.

Our team, Chassis & Vehicle Dynamics Engineering, develops and maintains components, systems, and complete chassis solutions for diesel, electric and autonomous vehicles for Volvo Trucks and Mack Trucks in the North American market.

We take full product ownership of the complete chassis and are accountable for everything we engineer from strategies to maintenance. We are in a heavy ramp up phase to deliver a lot of exiting and innovative product updates. To secure this growth, we are launching a new organization and creating an exciting new management team by introducing 3 new section managers, each taking the complete ownership for part of the department deliveries. The new sections are “Complete Chassis”, “Chassis Engineering”, and “Vehicle Dynamics Engineering”.

What You Will Be Doing
As Section Manager for the Chassis Engineering function, you will lead a team consisting of 4 engineering groups of highly skilled and passionate engineers. You will be responsible for the development and installation of a wide array of components and systems in our vehicles. For instance, you will take full product ownership from strategies to maintenance for all chassis structures (frame rails and cross-members), engine and cab suspensions, EV energy storage system installation, chassis equipment (urea systems, fuel tanks and lines, battery boxes, etc.), transport adaptation, and complete powertrain installations for both diesel and electric vehicles.

As a Section Manager, you will be responsible for:
  • Leading, coaching and developing engineering managers in your section
  • Setting strategies, developing work force plans and competencies for the future
  • Driving continuous improvement plans and fostering innovative thinking
  • Defining roadmaps and leading the development in your scope
  • Delivering projects on time with right quality and according to budget
  • Supporting technical decisions on component & system level
  • Developing interfaces towards other functions to support project deliveries

In this position, you will report to the Chief Engineer Chassis & Vehicle Dynamics Engineering in Greensboro and take an active part in the leadership team to contribute to the overall development of the department.

Who You Are
You are an experienced leader, having a can-do attitude, who takes initiative and have a desire for improvement. You actively encourage strong communication amongst your team and have a passion for developing people as well as technology. You are looking for a new challenge that will allow you to grow both personally and professionally.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronic or Mechanical engineering, or related field
  • 12+ years of experience in Product Development within the automotive industry
  • Leadership experience with direct reports is a must. Strong technical knowledge and understanding of the market and applications
  • Strategic thinking, seeing ahead to future possibilities and translating them into purposeful actions
  • Proven experience in building effective teams, maximizing each person’s contribution to achieve common goals
  • Effective communicator, able to provide a clear message and use compelling arguments to gain commitment
  • Can do-attitude and being resilient. Rebounding from setbacks and adversity when facing difficult situations.
  • Ability to drive cross functional and global network and overcome roadblocks
  • Accountable, well organized, analytical, business-focused, and holistic mind-set

  • Master's Degree in Mechatronic or Mechanical engineering, or related field
  • Experience leading technical leader
  • Experience in Project management of large projects
  • Experience from Agile development methods
