Intern: Manufacturing Development Rotational Program

The Intern: Manufacturing Development Program is a multi-disciplinary rotation program designed to instill a broad understanding of a variety of operational functions and develop technical, professional and leadership skills. The program includes assignments in Welding, Machining, Painting, and Assembly, along with mentorship and professional guidance offered through the Intern Advisory Program. You will spend 3-6 months in each area.

Main Tasks / Responsibilities / Authorities:

Welding -

Support the Welding area by planning and performing hand and automatic arc welding operations to weld similar and some dissimilar metals for structural and mechanical strength. Work involves the use of gas metal arc welding (GMAW), metal cored arc welding (MCAW) and oxy/fuel cutting operations.

Machining -

Support the Machining area through projects that involve planning, layout, constructing, altering and repairing a variety of jigs, fixtures, gauges, templates, standard and special holding devices for production Machining, Assembly and Fabrication processes. Additionally, the Intern, with managerial guidance, will repair and rebuild tools and tooling; disassemble, clean, diagnose trouble or defects, replace worn or broken machine parts; machine replacement parts, assemble and try out to ensure proper operation.

Painting -

Support the Paint area through regular monitoring and adjustment of paint and related equipment to ensure proper function, readiness and quality. Regular monitoring includes viscosity, flow rate, and air pressure checks and adjustment, as well as blast machine performance and preventative maintenance. Preventative maintenance includes, but is not limited to rebuilding paint guns, pumps, regulators and proportioning equipment, replacing worn or damaged hose, fittings, valves, etc., flushing fluid systems as necessary, and replace and/or clean fluid filters, flow meters, injectors, regulators, static mixers and spray guns on a regular basis.

Assembly -

Support the Assembly area by performing diversified assembly operations required to assemble various sizes and models of construction equipment. Work involves the assembly of complete machines, machine sections or subassemblies, as assigned, and the collaboration to diagnose malfunctions or difficulties concerned with the mechanical aspect of the unit under erection, its hydraulic systems, ignition or control circuits. The Intern will also fit, adjust, and align components, such as gears, shafts, keys and bearings, and assemble complete machines or sub-assembly as zones are assigned.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled and pursuing a technical/industrial degree at a technical school.
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
