Highlights of this position include the building of models, running Design of Experiments, collecting real-world data to calibrate, validate, and presentation of results.

We are a highly skilled team in charge of the chassis development for the North America truck brands in the Volvo Group. We develop components, systems and complete chassis for conventional trucks for entire product line with two brands Mack and Volvo. The Brake Systems and Vehicle controls (BSVC) group is responsible for developing strategy, supporting Advance Engineering and implementing systems related to braking, stability control and air supply systems.
The Pneumatic installation team inside the BSVC group is responsible for packaging braking systems components (such as air tanks, valves, ECU’s), Routing of Pneumatic and electrical harnesses. Collaborating with Testing teams, Suppliers and Manufacturing for validating and industrializing the designed components.
This position will report to the Group Manager for Pneumatic Installation in Chassis Engineering Greensboro.

In this role, you will serve as a specialist within air management systems, with limited direction and supervision, but will interact significantly within the department. As the Lead, you will integrate, package and verify pneumatic component installation according to the technical and assembly requirements. Maintaining our brand reputation is crucial, and this position serves that mission by assuring compliance with all applicable vehicle regulations ((FMVSS, FMCSR, EPA, etc.) relating to your area of responsibility.
The Lead Engineer for our Braking Systems and vehicle controls area has the opportunity to provide professional expertise within our major projects. In this role you will develop, coordinate and perform complex engineering tasks for the above systems.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Ensure new designs fulfill business targets, requirements and Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Feature targets
- Front-load work to ensure robust early stage releases and stable late stage releases
- Installation and packaging of Brakes related component from Compressor to Brake chambers, provide air supply to all the auxiliaries as needed.
- Routing and clipping of pneumatic and electrical components and verification both virtual and Physical
- Release components as applicable to resolve maintenance issues or secure project deliveries
- Develop modular systems and components to optimize part diversity
- Ensure component durability by requesting analysis and/or physical verification
- Integrate deliveries from others and secure quality readiness before release
- Develop and share acquired competence (e.g. training) and provide technical advice
- Communicate active project deliveries during daily team leadership meetings
Who are you?
You hold a Master’s degree in an Engineering discipline, preferably Mechanical Engineering, and have at least 8-12+ years of experience in product development in the transportation industry, preferably in truck development. Ideally, you have extensive knowledge of class 8 heavy duty trucks chassis structure, axle, suspension and vehicle dynamics. Knowledge of Braking Systems and Pneumatics is preferred.
Basic CAD (CREO-AVP) experience is required. Previous product ownership experience is preferred, as this position requires the ability to work in cross-functional teams to communicate and agree on the designs for assembly, cost, sourcing and aftermarket servicing. Project management experience is a merit, as is excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of DVP is preferred, but not a requirement. You are also expected to take initiatives to optimize the systems, processes and methods/ Work with engineers and designers on site and development centers around the world.
