Logistics Engineer - Intern

Primary Purpose

The overall objective for the Logistics Engineering Intern is to perform his/her duties on selected Logistics Engineering segments to assist design, develop and train processes for logistics, including designing or identifying proper material handling equipment and including laying down information flow in IT systems.

The Logistics Engineering Intern will support with Logistics Engineers in overall improving the Logistics Way of Working, while remaining aligned with local and global safety guidelines and Operating strategies including Volvo Operating Concept (VOC), Internal Logistics Guidelines (ILD) and Volvo Production System (VPS).

This position is in Wacol, Australia.Key Responsibilities

The Logistics Engineering Intern is responsible to support design and develop methods and process that support the Quality, Delivery, Cost, Feature, Technology, Sustainability and Risk Management (QDCFTSR) for Logistics Operations.

Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Support Design and develop logistics processes and flows – with understanding of E2E logistics Supply Chain
  • Gain understanding and knowledge of the Logistics IT systems and work towards synchronize Physical Material flows in the Warehouse with Information flow
  • Support Design and build Material Handling Equipment for material movement
  • Support performing capacity planning for all required resources such as manning, equipment, warehouse area and timing for projects.
  • Work with team to troubleshooting and performing RCA’s and documenting issues
  • Work with team to Identify and implement KAIZEN’s, Promote and implement VPS principles
  • Perform audits from time to time to ensure processes are being adhered
  • Ensure compliance with VGA’s Environmental Policy and Workplace Health & Safety policies and practices
  • Promote a safety conscious way of working
  • Promote and implement VPS principles and the Volvo Operations Concept guidelines
  • Actively participate in the rollout of Logistics 7 steps within focus improvement areas
Qualifications & Experience
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or Engineering.
  • Previous work experience (1-2 years) in a similar role where you have demonstrated your expertise in project management, change management, process management and business case development
  • Experience with cost management and financial analysis
  • An overall understanding of production and supply chain processes
  • Strong commercial acumen and total acquisition cost management
  • Excellent negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to positivity influence others
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal and multi-cultural communication skills
  • Continuous improvement and quality mind-set
  • Solid knowledge in Microsoft Office suite, ERP systems and the ability to pick up new systems quickly
  • Ability to deal with, and be supportive of colleagues/customers across all levels of the organisation
  • A Team Player and proactive approach to teamwork​​​​​​​
