Part II: The Project
Internship proposal: Market Intelligence
Reporting to : Director Market Intelligence
Starting date: December/January
Purpose of the job:
In this day and age, information and statistics play a central role in everything from performance management to research and development. A Statistical Forecast methodology facilitates the analysis of market development options and scenario design. The way the forecast is calculated and evaluated opens the door to many opportunities for future developments and applications. It ultimately enables management to make better decisions.
Volvo Construction Equipment is currently looking for an Intern to join its Market Intelligence team. The position is based in Brussels, Belgium. As a Market Intelligence Intern, you will support the evaluation, definition and implementation of Statistical Forecast models. As the department supports the global sales and production activities, the ideal candidate should possess a solid understanding of international business trends, analytical flair as well as statistical proficiency.
Some of the tools used for statistical forecasting are SAP SEM solutions, Analysis for Objects, SPSS and R expert package to select the optimal variable combination.
Main activities and responsibilities:
  • Monitor the Statistical Forecast models implemented to support Volvo CE operational functions
  • Research and identify trends that could contribute to the enhancements of these models
  • Run ad-hoc analyses on request
  • Review the results of the models
  • Identify deviations and prioritize issues
  • Focus on outlier management

Part III: The Student
Skills & experience:
Strong statistical understanding and interest in design in economic models
Understanding of macro-economic drivers
Understanding of Statistical Software – experience of R Expert Package preferred
Personal qualifications:
  • Written and spoken proficiency in English language. Additional languages are a plus.
