Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is thrilled to announce another successful company-wide campaign to raise money for the United Way of the Shippensburg Area.
Volvo employees raised $40, 400, which was matched by Volvo CE for a total donation of $80,760. The amount raised exceeded both the previous year’s total and the internal campaign goal. The United Way of the Shippensburg Area is the local branch of United Way Worldwide, an organization that helps improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good.
“As President of the United Way of the Shippensburg Area Board of Directors, it is fair to say on behalf of the agencies that we support, that we and the community that we serve owe a tremendous thanks to Volvo CE of Shippensburg,” said Barbara Lyman, United Way of the Shippensburg Area Board President.
The United Way of the Shippensburg Area board increased its campaign goal for 2013-2014 to $200,000, the highest to date due to increased community need and because the board was confident the local community would step up to help neighbors in need.
“The Board was highly confident that Volvo CE of Shippensburg, in particular, could be counted on as a singular force in the community to once again make a major difference in our campaign,” Lyman said.
One hundred percent of the donations from Volvo will directly support agencies that United Way works with and provide community enrichment and much-needed aid to those in the Shippensburg community, according to Melissa Varner, executive director, United Way of the Shippensburg Area.
“I am so thankful that Volvo is part of the Shippensburg community; their support is making so much of a difference to the United Way agencies that provide vital services,” Varner said.
Volvo CE believes in not just living and working in a community but also helping it to be the best that it can be. That’s why the company and its employees donate significantly to the United Way and actively participate in supporting area non-profits throughout the year.
