Diversity is headlining the sports business news with the International Olympic Committee launching a gender equality review project and Formula 1 replacing grid girls with grid kids. This is also being reflected in the banking industry with the introduction of gender equality exchange-trade funds giving investors the chance to actively invest in companies that champion equality.
In Volvo we also believe that winning requires diversity. Volvo Ocean Race teams are identical to our teams in business - men and women striving together against the competition.
For the 2017-18 edition, the Volvo Ocean Race incentivized mixed teams, providing more opportunities for world-class female sailors to compete at the highest levels of the sport. As a result all the 7 teams competing have mixed crews and one is skippered by a female, Dee Caffari, on board Turn the Tide on Plastic.
This International Women's Day gives us a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the world class talent of our 2017-18 female competitors who boast five Olympic medals, 15 Olympic Games and 13 previous Volvo Ocean Races. Watch the film celebrating these incredible women.
