Co-op: Electrical Engineering, Hardware (Spring 2022)

Group Trucks Technology (GTT), a division of Volvo Group, provides state-of-the-art research, engineering, product planning and project execution to final delivery of complete products and support of the products in the aftermarket for the trucking industry.
Position Description:
We are currently looking for a student to work with Hardware Team in the Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Vehicle Connectivity team in North America (EEVC-NA) as an Electrical Engineering Co-Op. The student should be prepared to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment; gaining experience and knowledge in various aspects of engineering (or mechanical, electrical, software, design, production, etc.). As a valued member of the Hardware Team within GTT, the student will have the opportunity to work daily with the engineers in the department. GTT’s goal is to contribute to the student’s development, as well as providing an opportunity for the student to work in a business environment within the manufacturing industry. This position will report to Manager, Hardware within the EEVC-NA organization headquartered in Greensboro, NC.
Position Responsibilities:

  • Support engineers with various tasks necessary for the development of new hardware components for the North American market

  • Work with engineers to create tools and environments to enhance and accelerate the development of these components

  • Troubleshooting component functionality and designing electronic circuits to support development automotive electronic components. This could also involve development of small amounts of embedded software or test scripts using typical programming languages (C, C++, Python) and/or Linux shell scripts

  • Work with agile processes and engineering standards to maintain efficient, well organized, reusable and reliable hardware and software to ensure the best possible performance, quality, and robustness of the products

General Internship Education and Program Requirements:

  • Applicant must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours of undergraduate studies prior to the start of the co-op/internship.

  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

  • This co-op will require up to 40 hours per week during the Spring 2022 semester and should not be enrolled in classes during the spring semester.

  • Co-ops will be expected to spend as much of their co-op time as possible working in the office. However, due to the unpredictable nature of the ongoing pandemic, the manager may approve the co-op to work a portion of their time from home if required.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Valid US Work authorization.
