Intern: Engineering Technician (Summer 2022)

Position Description:
We are currently looking for a student to work within a team of technicians and test engineers to prepare, develop, instrument, & perform a variety of complete vehicle tests. The student should be prepared to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment; gaining experience and knowledge in various aspects of heavy truck verification and validation within the Complete Vehicle. As a valued member of the CV workshop within GTT, the student will have the opportunity to work directly with the engineering staff to prepare and support vehicles under test. GTT’s goal is to contribute to the student’s development, as well as providing an opportunity for the student to work in a business environment within the transportation industry.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Prepare, develop, instrument, & perform a variety of complete vehicle tests
  • Mechanical labor
  • Prototype development
  • Installation and troubleshooting of instrumentation and sensors
  • Setup and maintenance of test rigs
  • Perform tests under direction of test engineer.
  • Required Education, Skills, & Knowledge
  • Applicant must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree Mechanical Engineering at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours of undergraduate studies prior to the start of the internship.
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
  • Basic understanding of heavy duty trucks and trailer systems.
  • Basic understanding of vehicle HVAC systems.
  • Basic understanding of AC/DC electrical systems.
  • Basic understanding of heavy duty trucks and trailer systems.
  • Basic understanding of machining practices.
  • General knowledge of Lathe, Mill, sawing practices.

  • Flexibility to perform a wide range of tasks, positive response to changes in direction and priorities, and acceptance of new challenges, responsibilities, and assignments.
Required Commitment:
  • Summer interns work up to 40 hours per week from May 17th - August 13th.
  • This internship will be expected to spend as much of their internship time as possible working in the office. However, due to the unpredictable nature of the ongoing pandemic, the manager may approve the intern to work a portion of their time from home if required.
