The Volvo Group is investing heavily in the Skövde plant. Greater flexibility regarding products and materials is the purpose of the investment to be made at the foundry in Skövde. The investment is also an important environmental initiative and involves, among other things, a more sustainable manufacturing technique with reduced consumption of non-renewable materials.

The decision made by AB Volvo's Board of Directors involves an investment of 1.6 billion SEK in the foundry in Skövde and will be implemented over the next 4 years. The initiative means that the existing moulding line will be removed and replaced by a new line with considerably higher flexibility both in terms of future products and materials.

"The entire transport industry is in a change phase and our plant at Skövde is central to this development. The Skövde plant supplies the entire Group with cast products and it's important for the Volvo Group that we also are at the forefront of this area," says Jan Ohlsson, EVP Volvo Group Trucks Operations.

“The investment means that we will replace an older production line in the foundry. In addition to the technological step we are taking, the initiative means that we are prepared for future products, processes and environmental challenges. This is another step for sustainable manufacturing. These are issues that are very important to us and the investment means, for example, that we will lower our energy consumption and reduce the use of non-renewable materials," says Lennart Richardsson, VP Skövde plant.
