Our culture is our people
Who we are
We believe in a work climate characterised by respect for the individual. We believe that diversity and inclusion increase engagement, generate innovation and develop business. Along with challenging and stimulating tasks, all these things make the Volvo Group an interesting place to work.
We believe that every employee has the capability and determination to improve our business operations. And we believe that a responsible business includes environmental aspects, ethics, human rights and social values. This is what we stand for and this is our way of doing business.
These are the pillars that define who we are:
As one of approximately 95,000 employees all over the world, you will be treated with respect. Together we strive to create an inclusive culture where everyone can contribute to their full potential and be accepted for who they are, regardless of gender, gender identity, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, age, sexual orientation, any disabilities, etc.
Our efforts to promote an ever more inclusive workplace and to increase diversity are closely linked to our foundation: Who we are and what we stand for.
Our diversity networks are employee resource groups that address different diversity dimensions. We currently have networks for female employees, for example WIN, employees who are gay, lesbian, bi- or transgender (Volvo EAGLE), cross-cultural networks, and networks for younger employees. And the door is open for more networks.
In addition, we have a global network for female top executives: Volvo GLOW, addressing leadership and intercultural management and promoting gender equality.
Diversity & success are linked
We know that diversity and inclusion are crucial to our business success as they increase innovation and employee engagement, help us cooperate between our sites across the globe and enable us to better connect with our diverse customer base. Diversity and inclusion targets are part of our strategic objectives, and we have been working systematically for over a decade to increase both. As a result, we are seeing a growing number of nationalities and an improved gender balance among our 300 top positions as well as in our employee base.
With all this said and done, being part of a diverse and inclusive team is also simply more fun and stimulating.
Safety, health & wellbeing
Our work climate is characterised by respect for the individual – your voice is heard and your ideas matter. The challenging jobs that we offer in a global, dynamic environment open the way for personal development and stimulating career opportunities. Our diverse workplace brings together people from all walks of life, with high skill levels and a diversity of outlooks – aspects that all contribute to your wellbeing and health.
Safe, health-promoting workplaces
We are committed to developing safe and healthy workplaces. As a Volvo Group employee you will have opportunities to make healthier and more productive lifestyle choices. These choices are driven by your own energy, passion and ambitions, and are supported by our culture and long-standing health promotion programmes.
Our company culture
Our company culture expresses how we interact with each other, with our customers and with society as a whole, to achieve our business objectives. It is rooted in our history and is critical to our company’s long term success. It is the foundation on which everything else is built.
Our main company values
The Volvo Group culture is summarised by a set of five carefully chosen values. They guide us in our day-to-day behaviour and they drive our decisions at all levels of the organisation. They express our shared beliefs across regions and entities and create the foundation for a high performing culture. Read more about our values under our about us section.
We have a culture of high performance that is based on employee engagement. We value:
• Customer success
We are committed to doing business in a responsible way. This means that we place great emphasis on environmental care, business ethics, human rights and social issues. This is why we support and protect human rights wherever we can within our sphere of influence. This is also why respect for the individual is fundamental within our organisation.
In line with this, we have a long tradition of corporate citizenship. We work together with global organisations, universities and local authorities to support sustainable social development. We also encourage local initiatives, sponsorship and volunteer activities in our communities.
Things that really matter
As a Volvo Group employee, you have the opportunity to work with things that really matter. We are at the forefront of new technologies and services, developing sustainable transport solutions and taking part in important corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Maximising our contribution
Part of our corporate social responsibility as a provider of commercial transport solutions is also to continuously strive to develop vehicles that put less strain on the environment – and to fund research on new technology in this area. All this aims at driving prosperity through transport solutions.
