The GTO plant in Curitiba is responsible for supplying trucks and buses to the Latin American market. With 2,700 employees, the plant manufactures engines and gearboxes, cab assemblies (welding and painting), and carries out the final assembly of Volvo-brand heavy-duty trucks (HDV), medium-heavy-duty trucks (MHDV), and buses. Since its inauguration in 1977, the plant has produced more than 400,000 vehicles.
Unlike other Volvo sites, Curitiba integrates all four GTO divisions (E&BM, PTP, SML, and PL) in a single location. Through a cross-functional and collaborative approach, these areas work together to achieve objectives, leave a lasting mark on the world, and shape the future.
Europe & Brazil Manufacturing is responsible for the manufacturing and assembly of trucks and buses for Volvo in Brazil. In Curitiba, we are approximately 2,100 people dedicated to delivering the best products to our customers.
The products manufactured here include buses, heavy-duty trucks, and medium-heavy-duty trucks.
Our primary focus is on optimizing operations, minimizing production times, and increasing efficiency within the context of a sustainable society. The Volvo Performance System (VPS) is our catalyst, involving all team members in continuous improvement efforts to achieve operational excellence.
In addition to vehicle and cab production, we have specialized teams ensuring continuous improvement of our processes. These include Logistics, Project, and Manufacturing Engineering, along with the Maintenance department, which ensures the availability of our equipment for production. Quality and VPS guarantee the excellent quality of our products, while the Customer Adaptation team addresses specific customization demands, ensuring the delivery of tailored solutions for each customer.
Powertrain Production is the division responsible for manufacturing the engines and transmissions that power our trucks and buses, as well as serving the Volvo Penta market.
At our plant, we produce 8, 11, and 13-liter engines, I-Shift transmissions, and machined blocks. These products are recognized for their quality and performance, featuring cutting-edge technology that increasingly enhances energy efficiency, sustainability, and ensures safe and reliable driving.
In Curitiba, we are approximately 500 people dedicated to delivering the best products to our customers, working in areas such as Block Machining, Engine and Transmission Assembly, Gearbox Installation, and supporting departments.
The Operations & Circular Solutions division is also part of Powertrain, playing a significant role in the sustainability and future of our business through the remanufacturing of engines, transmissions, and components.
Service Market Logistics is a global organization within GTO - Group Trucks Operations. In South America, SML operates in five countries: Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Peru. We are responsible for planning and logistics of spare parts for all Volvo Group brands and support society and business by ensuring post-sales logistics and the availability of Volvo products worldwide. Every second, spare parts leave our warehouses and are delivered to customers.
The warehouse in Curitiba is strategically located near major transporters and access to airports and ports, storing over 85,000 different types of parts.
We have more than 250 people in the region, integrated into an end-to-end flow that encompasses the entire supply chain. The entire SML team is committed to providing the best customer experience and service. With these professionals and processes, we drive movements that transform the present and create the future.

Production Logistics is responsible for production logistics within the Volvo Group, encompassing activities such as the procurement of logistics services and the management of transportation for material flows in the production process and finished product distribution. It also includes the management of packaging, whether standardized or special, to optimize handling and transportation. Additionally, this division handles the planning and optimization of logistics flows, ensuring that all stages, from supply to final delivery, occur in an integrated and efficient manner.
One of the key success factors is the close collaboration with regional functions and production logistics in the plants of Europe & Brazil Manufacturing, International Manufacturing, and Powertrain Production within GTO, as well as with production logistics functions in the Volvo Group's business areas.
