The first Volvo EC55B Compact Excavator built in Volvo Construction Equipment’s wholly owned factory in Shanghai China left the production line today and has been handed over to Mr Li Baomin, a private supplier who is involved in the new Haining Leather Export Processing Zone construction project in Zhejiang Province.
Volvo EC55B Compact Excavator was recently introduced worldwide by Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE). The machine offers one of the best digging forces in its class and has a powerful new engine for top performance without compromising comfort.
Mr. Dirk von Wahl, President of Volvo Construction Equipment (China) Co, Ltd comments on the roll-off of first China-built EC55B, “Demand for high quality compact equipment is continuously growing in China. Our local manufacturing facility in Shanghai is 100% capable to produce the world class machines to meet customer requirements.”
China is undergoing tremendous urbanization and city renovation and the demand for high performance compact excavators is increasing rapidly. Last year 2,500 machines were sold in China and the demand in 2004 is expected to be around 3,500 units. The forecast says that the market will continue to grow and total demand will reach 10,000 units by 2008.
“Today’s delivery from our Shanghai factory is another milestone in our company history. Our people have done a remarkable job to add Volvo compact machine line to our production only one year after the first Volvo excavator was handed over,” added Mr von Wahl.
