Staff from Volvo Group Southern Africa has rallied to donate 1 800 five-litre canisters of water, while the company contributed 20 000-litres. This means a total of 29 000-litres of water will go to communities that are in dire need of this life-giving resource. In addition, the company will also be sending tankers with 30 000-litres of water that will be filtered and used for agricultural crops.
Many towns and regions in South Africa are currently experiencing some of the worst drought conditions, resulting in empty dams, rivers and reservoirs around the country.
The company has also donated a truck and trailer to deliver the donated water to Clocolan, Ficksburg and Marquard in the Free State province, as well as Naboomspruit in Limpopo.
“We feel very humbled by the fantastic response of Volvo Group staff. It truly makes one proud to be part of a team who cares so much for those in need,” said Valentia Hobbs, General Manager of Marketing Communication at Volvo Group Southern Africa.
Operation Hydrate was formed by good Samaritans from various communities, NGOs, religious groups and companies, with a view to saving lives and easing the suffering of thousands of people.
“As a company, with environmental care being one of our core values, we are very proud to be part of the Operation Hydrate initiative and are glad that we are able to make a tangible contribution to alleviate the need in so many communities,” said Hobbs. “We will continue to assist in and support this initiative as much as we can.”
