The Vietnam Aviation Veterans of Arizona was created in 2000 with the primary mission to establish a museum to pay tribute to and memorialize the veterans of the Vietnam War and all veterans of the United States military. The museum and its displays, dedicated to educating the public on military aviation and its impact on the defense of the country, is open daily, with no admission fee, to the public. It has a fly-in type airfield for “fly and view” visits. The museum is located approximately 30 miles southwest of Phoenix.
The Volvo DD29 roller compaction machine will be used by the fly-in museum to maintain and service the 2600’ runway, taxiways, and infrastructure at the institution, creating considerable savings in operational costs.
Colonel Charles Millar, president of the Memorial Museum, commended the two companies for their donation and support of the organization. “Companies like Arnold and Volvo are key to the success of the many veterans’ organizations throughout the United States. Their participation in our program brings credit to the veterans that have sacrificed so much for this great country. I cannot express enough our gratitude to them.”
In a joint statement upon the delivery of the equipment to the museum, Tom O’Byrne, President, Construction Equipment Division, Arnold Machinery, Phoenix, Arizona, and Göran Lindgren, President and Chief Executive Officer, Volvo Construction Equipment North America, Asheville, North Carolina, said: “We take a great deal of pride in making this donation to the museum. It is the very least that we can do to recognize and support the organization’s tremendous dedication to duty, to the military veterans of the United States.” Lindgren praised O’Byrne and the management of Arnold Machinery for their participation and role in making this contribution possible. “Their generosity and spirit of support for this unique institution meets the highest standards of community service,” Lindgren said.
