Volvo Trucks Announces JOST International as New Standard Supplier of Fifth Wheels

Volvo Trucks will now equip fifth wheel coupling devices from JOST International as standard equipment on Volvo VN and VHD tractors manufactured at its Dublin, Va. plant, which assembles all Volvo trucks sold in North America.

“Introduction of this new standard fifth wheel represents our ongoing focus on safety, driver productivity and customer value,” said Frank Bio, Volvo Trucks product manager – trucks. “We appreciate JOST’s broad product range and availability of information to help specify a fifth wheel based on vehicle application.”

With only four moving parts, JOST fifth wheels are one of the simplest and safest fifth wheel coupling devices available. JOST’s design employs a spring-loaded steel locking bar that automatically secures the kingpin once it slides into position. Equal support on each side of the coupling helps distribute the trailer load evenly, resulting in reduced wear. The JOST design also helps facilitate minor rebuilds without removing the fifth wheel. Drivers benefit from the fifth wheel’s easy operation, requiring just 60 pounds of pulling force to position or disconnect.

Volvo Trucks continues to offer the JOST cab actuated air release as an option for additional driver comfort.

“We appreciate the opportunity to expand our partnership with Volvo Trucks and to further our shared values of safety and driver comfort,” said Rich Carroll, JOST International vice president, sales & marketing.
