New York City Department of Sanitation Showcases the Mack® LR Electric at the New York International Auto Show

GREENSBORO, NC (April 13, 2023) – The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) is featuring its Mack® LR Electric refuse model during the 2023 New York International Auto Show April 7 to April 16 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City.

The New York Auto Show offers attendees a comprehensive closeup look at innovative new technologies and trends in the automotive industry. Now in its 123rd year, the New York Auto Show is the destination for those interested in the most advanced technologies the industry offers. “We are excited that DSNY chose to spotlight the Mack LR Electric vehicle among their other battery electric vehicles (BEV) in its booth at this year’s New York Auto Show,” said Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America. “DSNY is committed to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and Mack is proud to help them achieve their goals through the Mack LR Electric refuse truck.” New York City is leading the effort to reduce emissions and fight climate change in line with its One NYC 2050 goals. The City is implementing a $20 billion resiliency strategy to protect the City and residents from the impacts of climate change and reducing GHG emissions. DSNY is a key entity helping the achieve its goal of carbon neutrality. DSNY is working closely with Mack to expand testing of the LR Electric models in each of the city’s boroughs The next generation Mack LR Electric, launched in March 2022, offers a standard 376 kWh total battery capacity for 42 percent more energy and increased range between vehicle charges. Twin electric motors produce 448 continuous horsepower and 4,051 lb.-ft. of peak torque output from zero RPM.

Four NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide) lithium-ion batteries, charged through a 150 kW, SAE J1772-compliant charging system, power the vehicle and all onboard accessories through 12V, 24V and 600V circuits. The two-stage regenerative braking system helps recapture energy from the hundreds of stops the vehicle makes each day with an increasing load.
