Operations Graduate Development Program - Assembly Production Engineer

The Operations Graduate Development Program is an entry-level rotational program designed to provide recent college graduates with an opportunity to work in challenging environments while learning how our organization provides complete transport solutions. Applicants must have successfully completed degree in 2018, 2019, or no later than June 2020.

During 15 intense and exciting months, starting September 2020, the program will give you a holistic view of the Volvo Group’s global truck manufacturing organization. You will get to know our different brands and their plants and learn about our logistics organizations and activities. You will take a deep dive into some specific areas of our business such as manufacturing, health and safety, quality, and continuous improvements, while also learning about the end to end supply chain, aftermarket parts, and our remanufacturing operations.
In parallel, you will grow as a person, through individual and team development sessions. You will have a permanent position from day one, with a manager and mentor to support you. You will experience several “on-the-job” rotations and have the opportunity to work on real project assignments. In addition, you will join a number of learning modules where you get together with other program participants to take part in trainings and events designed to help you grow into your future career at the Volvo Group.
The Lehigh Valley plant is responsible for producing Mack trucks for North American customers and export markets. As part of that, the Manufacturing Engineering Team has the responsibility to define and optimize the Assembly Operation processes of all Mack trucks. Our mission includes the support of current production, all new product projects, all new capital industrial projects, development of lean processes using the Mack Production System and the adaptation of new technology and Ways of Working.
Our motivated and highly competent manufacturing engineering team optimizes our assembly processes on different parameters such as safety, ergonomy and efficiency. Working closely together with the operators, other functional engineers, tooling engineers and line management they work out the most effective solutions for all the challenges in the assembly process a big plant like ours faces: rebalancing, product changes, bring new technologies and so on.
We are a deliberately collaborative team of about 90 Managers, Project Managers and Engineers, working with other teams both inside and outside of the Lehigh Valley plant. We are part of the connected global team of manufacturing professionals across the Volvo Group world leveraging the best ideas and proven solutions. We challenge each other and strive for continuous improvement while maintaining a balance by working hard and having fun. We get stuff done. We are in the mid of the journey of the biggest transformation since the existence of the plant, called Mack Reborn, turning the corner and developing new systems, processes and tools for implementation by our operations team to improve plant performance, customer excellence and assuring a future for Mack and our families. You will support the Manufacturing Engineering Director to develop his/her portfolio. In that perspective, you will prepare the implementation of the Product and Process changes with the operational teams in the plants and you will interact with Volvo Group Design departments. You will also participate in developing the Manufacturing Technologies of the future in relation with Volvo Group advanced Engineering teams. Eventually you will participate in our journey to reach Excellence by developing the Mack Production System in the Engineering environment.
To be successful in this role you will possess the following qualifications and skills:
  • A BSc or MSc in Engineering Science, Computer Science, Supply Chain, or related discipline.
  • Successful completion of degree in 2018, 2019, or not later than June 2020.
  • Maximum two years of previous working experience, prior to or after graduation.
  • Applicable internship or co-op experience with exposure to advanced manufacturing, Industry 4.0 & AI, machine learning, block chain, automation, and smart sensors.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Visa sponsorship (including OPT/CPT status) is not offered for this program; therefore, eligible candidates must have valid US work authorization.
