Lead Simulation & Analysis Engineer

Powertrain Engineering is contributing to the Volvo Group’s competitive position in the market place by developing and maintaining profitable products and product components in terms of quality, delivery, cost and function and that comply with all applicable regulatory requirements. Our scope of work includes engineering and design of engines, gearboxes, axles, hybrid technology and driveline and is based on common architecture and shared technology.
Application Engineering and Virtual Simulation is part of the Powertrain Engineering Application Center in Curitiba and is responsible for performing simulation & analysis in powertrain for several products of the Volvo Group. This covers structural, energy, fluid, function and control systems simulations. We have co-operations with our colleagues in Gothenburg (Sweden), Lyon (France), Hagerstown (USA), Ageo (Japan).

1.Job Summary

As a Lead Simulation and Analysis Engineer, you will be responsible for carry out simulation activities and analysis in powertrain areas for all our products: medium and heavy-duty diesel engines, hybrids systems, transmissions and rear axles. You will also develop new solutions to optimize fuel consumption, vehicle performance and engine emissions with a strong focus on the Latin America market needs. The simulations are based on Matlab/Simulink platform. Additionally to his/her technical deliveries, the lead engineer will act as a Scrum Master providing guidance and balancing simulation resources according to our backlog.


  • Integrate 1D Simulink simulation models in our HILs (Hardware in the Loop) Rigs from dSpace.

  • Develop new virtual simulation models based on Matlab/Simulink focusing on Latin America product portfolio.

  • Perform powertrain 1D simulations and optimization (fuel economy, emissions, component duty cycle) within busses and trucks.

  • Be active in the Global Simulation Platform and Rigs network.

  • Manage the backlog according to agile principles.

3.Additional Information

3.1.Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • Mechanical, Mechatronics or Electrical degree.

  • Established “hard core” skills in Matlab/Simulink. At least four years of experience is required.

  • Good skills in control systems and engine application.

  • Competent computer skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Very good knowledge on heavy duty vehicles and powertrain technologies.

  • Strong communication skills in Portuguese and English, both spoken and written.

  • Experience with agile.

  • Commercial Vehicle driver’s license is preferred but not a pre-requisite.
