North America Purchasing is an organization within GTP supporting Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) and Mack brands on the purchasing related activities both on Automotive and indirect purchasing. Supplier Quality & Development North America is an organization within GTP representing a yearly purchased spend of $2.5B USD.
As the Advanced Supplier Quality Assurance Director for SQ&D GTP NA, you drive and manage performance of your team from a Quality, Delivery, Cost, Sustainability, Technical, and Risk stand point. As leader, you will be leading the advanced strategic agenda for Vehicles and Powertrain for SQ&D in North America. You will manage a team of SQA Managers and SQE’s that will be focused on eliminating all supplier risk issues for projects in the Volvo Group NA pipeline. This includes leading a group of quality engineers focused on supplier launch readiness and supplier performance improvements. This position is both operational and strategic and requires hands-on leadership of people and subject matter. The group’s overall focus is creating value for internal and external customers. You will also promote a strong collaboration between SQ&D in the region and globally thereby capitalizing on global knowledge and competence sharing within SQ&D.
Reporting To: Vice President GTPNA SQ&D
Be a member in GTPNA SQ&D leadership team and in an active way and contribute to the strategic development of the department
Drive and lead the SQ&D teams in accordance with defined strategies and targets
Ensure a close interaction with suppliers by developing the team to ensure common strategy and performance expectation is driven and communicated to the suppliers
Strongly represent SQ&D in all sourcing board cases and all pre-case cross-functional activities.
Ensure the best supplier is selected, working in close collaboration with cross-functional partners.
Assume complete ownership for the suppliers selected and the associated risks. All identified risks must be mitigated before build events and product launch.
Assume complete ownership for validating that selected suppliers have the best possible appropriate capabilities in project development, technology and manufacturing. Manage QDCF- TSR targets of the supplier,
Steer the teams to drive the SQ&D tools deep into the supply base (APQP, PFMEA, Run at Rate, PPAP, etc.) and drive a “zero defects” attitude across the department.
Actively support process harmonization and best practice sharing within GTP SQ&D and GTP NA
Drive actions to achieve KPI’s and secure supplier quality, capacity and cost targets
Secure needed communication with cross-functional teams
Lead by example. Hands-on. Evaluate teams and individuals; elaborate the competence development plan in cooperation with the SQ&D department in the region and within the function as member of the strategic line network, and in consistency with GTP NA and others GTX functions.
Secure and Manage resources within his/her area
Responsible for operating expenses
Work in accordance with the Volvo processes, the Code of Conduct and the Volvo Values
You will also manage interactions with Engineering in strategic development of technical road maps
Competence & Experience
University degree in Engineering/technology and/or Business Administration
At least 5 years leading people with proven strong leadership skills
At least 5 years in a manufacturing based role(s) ideally with industry experiences in automotive, medium/heavy truck, and/or other fast-paced Top 100 manufacturing companies.
At least 5 years’ experience with management of SQ&D tools – APQP, PPAP, Run at Rate, etc.
Strong demonstration of planning skills preferably in leadership roles.
Strong knowledge of and experience in product launch for vehicles or powertrain
Solid experience and knowledge of Vehicles/Powertrain and related current technologies
Knowledgeable in current and future business trends, technology and markets
Able to execute in a global organization
Must demonstrate capability to face problems and act quickly and directly. Provide direct & actionable feedback
Able to handle pressure, fast pace, uncertainty and the unexpected. Holds things together during tough times

Ensure within the framework of the Purchasing manual, the mandate to fulfill the above described responsibilities on continental and global geographical breadth
Stop purchase of material not conforming to quality demands
Make recommendation for approval or refusal of the sourcing cases presented in relevant Sourcing Committees or Sourcing Boards
