Mission/purpose of the Job

Drive marketing communication with reach and impact to improve UD Trucks sales and reputation. Special focus on UD event and product /aftermarket marketing. Develop concepts, material, processes and tools, and support to deploy these in the markets.

Scope and influence


Responsible to drive UD Truck marketing communication, with a special focus on event and product /aftermarket marketing. Global scope including Japan Sales, International Sales, and Group Trucks Asia. Operational responsibility for Japan in certain areas. Media/PR, corporate and internal communication is part of the Communication department and not in scope. Interface with UD regions and markets, other UD Trucks functions, and corresponding units in the Volvo Group.


Authority to take decisions in accordance with Volvo Group/UD Trucks Authorization rules for the role.

Key responsibilities/Accountabilities

The UD Trucks Marketing Manager will be part of driving UD marketing communication in Japan and globally with reach and impact to improve UD Trucks sales and reputation.

Special focus on the following areas:

Event & Exhibition:

  • Plan and drive central marketing events. Support regional events, mainly in Japan, and support overseas markets as needed. Support and occasionally manage events in other UD Trucks functions, including brand related and internal events.

  • Plan and develop event concepts, guidelines, material/kits, and support deployment to regions and markets.

Product and aftermarket marketing:

  • Develop and manage product / aftermarket digital and printed communications and tools such as brochures, point-of-sales materials, advertisements and other promotion materials, as well as visuals, messages and guidelines for these. This may include leading creation of CGIs and coordination with responsible persons to ensure high quality photo and film content.

  • Deploy these messages and tools via both printed and digital channels.

The UD Marketing Communication Manager will also be responsible for:

  • Project management of event, product / aftermarket communication projects and campaigns with responsibility for agency brief, project planning, deliverables, quality, timing and budget.

  • Lead selection and manage interface and relations with marketing communication related agencies and suppliers. Manage quotations and invoices.

  • Responsible for yearly budget and plans in the areas of responsibility.

As part of UD Trucks Brand & Communication team, the UD Marketing Communication Manager will also:

  • Be involved in and support content creation and writing, UD website, social media and other aspects of digital marketing communication, design and layout, film and photo, event, branding, and other tasks in the brand, marketing and communication areas.

  • Participate in related UD brand, marketing and sales networks. Joint planning and operational support for Japan Sales HQ and regions. Interface and support for other functions including International Sales and Group Truck Asia central functions and markets.

  • Establish, maintain and develop relationships with relevant counterparts within Japan Sales and other UD markets and regions, UDT functions, as wells as peers with other Volvo Group truck brands.

  • Interface with other UD Trucks and Volvo Group business units and functions.

Key targets and results

  • Fulfilment of strategic business plans and decided financial targets and KPI’s for UD Trucks Brand and Communication

  • Secure that key marketing activities are executed according to agreed plans with markets

  • Use KPIs to measure marketing effectiveness


Essential educational and/or training qualifications and certificates

  • Hold a university degree and / or an MBA/Master, preferably in marketing.

  • Formal project management training or certificate is considered a merit.

Preferred experience and knowledge

  • A minimum of 5 years of marketing communications experience. Such experience in B2B marketing, ideally the truck or automotive industry, a strong merit.

  • Event management experience and skills.

  • Campaign management experience and skills.

  • Experience in brochure and point-of-sales material creation, printing, digital communication and advertisement

  • Project management experience and skills.

  • Experience and skills in working with external vendors and agencies.

  • Other skills in the brand, marketing and communication areas are considered as merits, e.g. experience and/or interest in branding, content marketing, digital marketing/website/social media/apps, design, film and photo.

  • Experience in other functions such as product/technology, sales, retail and aftermarket considered a merit.

  • Good truck/automotive knowledge and understanding of the truck/automotive business (or keen willingness to learn)

  • Experience with UD Trucks (or experience from other Volvo Group brands/competitor truck brands) a merit.

  • Experience and good ability to work cross-functionally, and lead and work through networks and projects. Team management and leadership experience a merit.

  • Ability to work independently to deliver results, on time and within budget.

  • Structured, creative and inspiring personality, a good team player with self-motivation and drive, and willingness to learn.

  • Successful track record as an open minded and inclusive team member with a global mind-set.

Necessary technical/functional/language skills

  • Good skills in both English and Japanese languages.

  • Full fluency in Japanese orally and in reading/writing.

  • Good skills in digital tools and social media. Good Powerpoint skills.

  • Good understanding of the truck / automotive business in Japan.
