Volvo Penta’s 9-liter diesel engine has shown to be well suited to various specialty vehicles, a good example of this is the Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV), which are used for fast and cost-efficient container handling in ports.
The German company Gottwald Port Technology, one of the world’s leading producers of AGV vehicles, has selected Volvo Penta’s 9-liter engine, TAD942VE at 250 kW, as the best engine for future container handling vehicles.
Volvo Penta recently concluded an agreement with Gottwald Port Technology covering delivery of a total of 35 engines and with an option for additional 35 engines. The engines will be installed in AGVs in operation at the port of Rotterdam.
The first vehicle has already been delivered and the remaining units are scheduled to be completed during the summer of 2005. Each of the vehicles is intended for use for a total of about 5,500 hours annually.
