Volvo Road Institute announces new 2011 – 2012 schedule

Volvo Road Institute® enters its 47th year as the asphalt industry’s premier training school, providing practical instruction for contractors and industry professionals.

Volvo Construction Equipment has announced its 2011 – 2012 schedule for the Road Institute. The course curriculum ranges from two- to five-day sessions beginning in September and continuing through May 2012, with classes held at two training facilities in North America: one in Chambersburg, Pa., and the other in Phoenix, Ariz.

“The Road Institute focus is tailored to best practices in asphalt paving, and the Volvo commitment to training includes providing these programs as a service to the industry and to give others the opportunity to learn best practices in a controlled environment,” said Dan Snedecor, director of product and sales education. “People attending Road Institute do not need to own or operate Volvo equipment.”

Nearing its fifth decade, the Road Institute focuses its training efforts on the customer and various occupations within the hot-mix asphalt (HMA) paving industry. The Road Institute provides the paving contractor, operator, agency and industry personnel with the important link between equipment technology and jobsite applications. The curriculum is designed for operators, crew and industry personnel, including state DOT administrators and asphalt production professionals.

Operator courses and seminars are designed to improve an operator’s skills with both theory and hands-on operation of asphalt paving and compaction equipment. Courses are offered in paver and compactor operation and maintenance, applications, automatic grade and slope control systems, screed operation and soil compaction application. Additional individual courses are also offered on hydraulic and electrical system fundamentals for milling machines, Blaw-Knox® pavers and PF6000-Series pavers. Individual mechanics courses for asphalt compactors and soil compactors are also offered.

Courses are structured to provide classroom and hands-on practical training. Topics in each session range from daily and weekly maintenance to the operation and application of asphalt paving. Safety is included as part of each course curriculum, as it is one of the Volvo core values.
Class size is limited for ideal instructor-to-student ratios and team learning. Tuition is $750 (USD) per student per three- to five-day course or $500 (USD) per student per two-day seminar. For more information on the Road Institute or to register for classes, visit roadinstitute.com.
