Each Volvo Ocean Race boat is equipped with two standard Volvo Penta diesel engines.

• A D2-75 engine is used for propulsion in and out of ports and in emergencies. This engine is sealed before each start.
• A D1-30 engine is used for auxiliary power. This engine is used extensively during the race to produce electrical power and fresh water, and to power the canting keel.

With the new Volvo Ocean Race blog, Volvo Penta plans to take the visitor under the hull and behind the scenes the of the Volvo Penta commitment; reports from the R&D department on what makes a reliable sailboat engine, the Krossholmen marine test center and much more.
