Each Volvo Ocean Race boat is equipped with two standard Volvo Penta diesel engines.
• A D2-75 engine is used for propulsion in and out of ports and in emergencies. This engine is sealed before each start.
• A D1-30 engine is used for auxiliary power. This engine is used extensively during the race to produce electrical power and fresh water, and to power the canting keel.

Magnus Gedda is Volvo Penta’s service manager for the Volvo Ocean Race. He is responsible for the installation of the two engines in each boat. Magnus is present at every stopover with his mobile workshop and will, in cooperation with Volvo Penta’s world wide service organization, give service to the engines and equipment. He will also blog for Volvo Penta.
