With steerable drive units and twin forward-facing propellers, Volvo Penta IPS gives 30 percent lower fuel consumption and 20 percent higher top speed compared to traditional shaft installations.
The Polish boat builder Sunreef Yachts is now introducing Volvo Penta IPS to their 60 feet power-catamaran. Traditional shaft installations have so far been the most common propulsion system on power-catamarans, but the twin IPS800 drive packages now set a new standard.
“Sunreef Yachts was impressed with the IPS systems unique features on maneuverability, low fuel consumption and excellent onboard comfort. And when they decided to introduce IPS to their power-catamaran, this resulted in a success story,” says Stefan Zegarlicki, Sales Manager at Volvo Penta Poland.
“The 60 feet power-catamaran can now be moved in any desired direction thanks to the Joystick. This makes docking and driving both easier, safer and enables scenarios that were previously unthinkable,” continuous Stefan Zegarlicki.
Available for the entire range
With the 60 feet power-catamaran already being delivered to the satisfied customer, Sunreef Yachts is now planning for making the IPS system available for their entire power-catamaran range, from 60 up to 100 feet. The calculations have already begun.
“Due to an increasing demand, the engineering department at Sunreef and Volvo Penta are now working on the new 70 and 80 feet power-catamaran. These tremendous catamarans have a displacement of 45 tons. We are also calculating on the 60 feet power-catamaran hull shape, so that the IPS system can be offered for the entire range, “ continues Stefan Zegarlicki.
