Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) was honored with the annual Pennsylvania Governor’s ImPAct Award on May 30. The construction equipment company was among the 50 companies Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett recognized for developing ideas, reaching new markets and making positive contributions in local communities at the 2014 Governor’s ImPAct Awards.
“Today, we honor the men and women who spend countless hours providing the leadership and care that it takes to run a successful and growing business,” Gov. Corbett said during the awards ceremony. “This recognition goes beyond the contributions made to Pennsylvania's diverse and vibrant economy. These awards celebrate Pennsylvanians who embody the American dream by taking risks, working hard and achieving success.”
The Corbett administration created the Governor’s ImPAct Awards initiative in 2013 to honor businesses in Pennsylvania that are creating job opportunities and contributing to the state’s economy. The award recognizes companies in five categories: Jobs First, Community Impact, Small Business Impact, Entrepreneurial Impact and Export Impact. The awardees were chosen by an independent judging panel selected by the state’s partners, Team Pennsylvania Foundation and Journal Multimedia.
Volvo Construction Equipment received the Jobs First Award for its consistent job growth and retention over the past two years.
“It's an honor for Volvo CE to be recognized by the governor as a corporation that values our employees and makes a positive impact on the economy of our community, and the state,” said Sean Glennon, vice president of Operations Americas, Volvo CE.
The construction equipment company employees about 1,000 people in the Shippensburg area, where it produces more than 50 different models of construction equipment including, wheel loaders, asphalt pavers, soil and asphalt compactors, milling machines and motor graders.
In 2011, Volvo announced a $100 million investment in North America that included the relocation of more than 150 jobs and the company’s North American sales headquarters to Shippensburg. As the next stage of this investment the company will unveil its new North American Customer Center in a ceremony on June 23.
