U.S. Sen. Bob Casey today visited Mack Trucks’ Lehigh Valley Operations (LVO) facility in Macungie, Pennsylvania, where he drove the Mack® LR Electric, Mack’s first fully electric Class 8 refuse vehicle. Pictured left to right is Scott Barraclough, Mack Trucks senior product manager e-mobility and Sen. Casey. Assembled at LVO, the Mack LR Electric offers zero tailpipe emissions, improved sustainability and a quieter vehicle for refuse collection. Sen. Casey also toured the facility and discussed the recently passed CHIPS and Science Act, which was supported by Sen. Casey and signed into law by President Joe Biden on Tuesday, Aug. 9. The Act incentivizes the investment in domestic jobs, technology and manufacturing, primarily in the semiconductor industry. Semiconductor chips are critical to manufacturing Mack trucks, with some heavy-duty diesel-powered trucks requiring up to 1,500 chips per truck.
