The D9, which is being launched in 500-hp and 575-hp versions, is an inline six-cylinder marine diesel that strengthens Volvo Penta’s engine program for leisure boats from 40 up to 50 feet.
The D9 is electronically controlled and features a mid-positioned twin-entry turbocharger that offers the possibility of pulse charging. This means that the energy in each exhaust gas pulse can be used to provide higher compression, which gives the engine highly rapid response direct from low rpms. This contributes to the D9’s very high torque.
Medium-heavy performance diesels
In 2003 Volvo introduced and entirely new and an internally developed diesel engine product line, the D4/D6. These new engines have been very well received within the marine industry and Volvo Penta is now launching high-performance versions from the same engine family, the D4-260 and the D6-350.
The 3.7-liter D4-260 and the 5.5-liter D6-350 feature the latest technology, including common-rail direct injection and four-valve technique, all of which is controlled and monitored by Volvo Penta’s electronic platform EVC (Electronic Vessel Control).

Volvo Penta lanserar nya marina dieselmotorer
Volvo Penta fortsätter förnyelsen av sitt marina produktprogram.
I höst lanseras bland annat dieselmotorn D9 samt högprestandaversionerna av den nya generationen medeltunga dieselmotorer, D4/D6, som Volvo Penta introducerade 2003.
D9:an, som lanseras i effektversionerna 500 resp 575 hk, är en rak sexcylindrig 9-liters marindiesel som stärker Volvo Pentas motorprogram för fritidsbåtar från cirka 40 till drygt 50 fot.
D9:an är elektroniskt styrd och har en mittmonterad, s k ”twin entry-turbo”, som ger möjlighet till pulsladdning. Det innebär att kraften i varje avgaspuls kan användas till att ge laddtryck, något som ger motorn mycket snabb respons direkt från låga varvtal, vilket bidrar till D9:ans mycket höga vridmoment.
Medeltunga prestandadieslar
Volvo Penta introducerade 2003 ett helt nytt och egenutvecklat dieselmotorprogram, D4/D6. De nya motorerna har fått ett mycket gott mottagande inom marinindustrin och nu lanserar Volvo Penta högprestandaversionerna från samma motorfamilj, D4-260 samt D6-350.
D4-260 på 3,7 liter samt D6-350 på 5,5 liter har båda den allra senaste tekniken som exempelvis common-rail direktinsprutning och fyrventilsteknik – alltsammans styrt och övervakat av Volvo Pentas elektroniska plattform, EVC.
