Commodity Manager

Position Summary:
The focus of this position is strategic purchasing, which combines high levels of technical understanding and expertise with ownership of relevant commercial issues in an international team environment. The position will work with external contacts worldwide, including both suppliers and the Volvo CE Global purchasing organization. The position will also work internally in close cooperation with other independent Volvo business areas and other functions such as R&D, quality, manufacturing, logistics, sales & marketing, customer solutions and aftermarket.
Specific responsibilities include: develop sourcing strategies for local, regional, and/or global sourcing of key components for best supply performance (including Supplier Quality, Delivery, and Cost (QDC)); drive the Volvo purchasing processes for supplier evaluation, selection, and monitoring for assigned commodities; lead and mentor the buyers in sourcing strategy deployment for the commodity area; continuously improve the supply chain and build relationships with key suppliers of assigned commodities; take ownership to reduce and optimize the supplier base; actively participate on Volvo global commodity teams, including regular face to face global meetings; lead commercial negotiations with key suppliers including implementation of full agreement packages; achieve financial and operational KPI's and recommend business and process improvements; support sales & marketing strategy on specific market driven activities such as custom built product offerings; secure strong cross-functional cooperation between the purchasing department and the various internal stakeholders; and actively support continuous improvement efforts within the organization.
Bachelors or foreign equivalent degree in engineering, business, international business, or supply chain management and three years of experience in the job offered or three years of experience in the construction equipment or commercial vehicle industry performing strategic sourcing activity and developing strategy for: electrical (assemblies and boxes), electronic (sensors and ECUs), hydraulic components (cylinders and tubes), and equipment attachments (buckets, forks, couplers and wear).
Special skills - three years of experience performing analysis of supplier qualification, sub-commodity segmentation, spend analysis, negotiation, and supplier manufacturing capabilities related to the commodities above mentioned; three years of experience actively managing supplier relationships to include: conducting business review meetings, developing supplier improvement agreements, conducting total cost negotiations, executing contract management/oversight; three years of experience performing cost break down analysis and the calculation of should be cost, including the overhead calculation by process (nesting efficiency, cutting, bending, etc.); three years of experience developing and implementing lean manufacturing projects in cooperation with suppliers using the tools and concepts of VSM, 5s, TQM, Gemba, and WIP; three years of experience analyzing customer profile application and segmentation, and performing competition analysis for attachments, electrical, electronics and hydraulics commodities to secure: market share evolution, standard cost management and profitability goals, and product portfolio development; three years of experience conducting risk analysis and implementing mitigation plans linked to foreign currency fluctuation; and three years of experience executing the strategic purchasing procedures of: business case execution, contract elaboration, new product launch, re-sourcing, make or buy business case.
25% domestic and international travel required.
