Volvo Group Australia is leading the transformation to a more sustainable future in Australia. As an environmentally conscious organisation with a commitment to innovation, we are paving the way for sustainable transport solutions across the nation. Including battery electric transport solutions and renewable fuel sources. By prioritising zero emissions and sustainable practices, we are driving positive change for both our customers and the environment.
We actively collaborate with stakeholders, including customers, industry partners, and government bodies, to promote sustainable practices and advocate for permanent harmonised axle weight regulations nationally.
Together, we are shaping a future where transport and infrastructure solutions prioritize safety, productivity, and sustainability.
A significant milestone in our journey towards zero emissions is the commitment to manufacture Volvo electric trucks at our Wacol production facility. This underscores our unwavering dedication to sustainable manufacturing and reinforces our position as a leader in the transformation to a lower emission society. Join us as we lead the charge towards a cleaner, greener future for Australia and beyond.
Renewable Fuels
In Australia, our current preferred alternative fuel is hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO). HVO is based on advanced raw materials mainly vegetable oils. It uses the same raw material feedstock as bio-diesel but uses a very different processing technique and is considered a second generation bio-diesel. HVO has the same efficiencies and nearly identical chemical structure as standard fossil diesel but with up to 90% lower carbon emissions. HVO is easy to use in current infrastructure and engines, it can be mixed as a blend with regular diesel without any extra servicing requirements or consequences.
Our trucks are compatible with HVO and at the 2023 Brisbane Truck Show, all trucks on display from Volvo Group Australia were filled with HVO to demonstrate that it can be a viable alternative fuel today, without massive investments or changes to customer operations.
