The new paintshop will generate extremely low emissions and have a low environmental impact, as a result of investments in a completely new technology in terms of both the coating method and the coating used. Total emissions from the paintshop will be five to six times lower than the limit stipulated by the EU for new paintshops and the investment in environmental-improving technology will amount to slightly more than SEK 245 M.
The environmental grant totaling SEK 85 M approved by the EU will account for 35% of the cost of environment-related investments. In addition, Volvo recently received a regional investment grant of SEK 45 M from the National Board for Industrial and Technical Development for this investment.

The cab plant in Umeå manufactures truck cabs for Volvo Truck's plants in primarily Tuve in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Gent in Belgium. The Umeå plant has slightly more than 2,400 employees and produces approximately 60,000 cabs annually. It is estimated that the new paintshop will be placed on stream during 2007.

Volvo investerar 650 MSEK i världens renaste täcklacksmåleri i Umeå
AB Volvo har beslutat att investera 650 MSEK i ett nytt täcklacksmåleri i hyttfabriken i Umeå. Det nya måleriet blir världens renaste täcklacksmåleri. Investeringen blir möjlig tack vare ett regionalt investeringsbidrag på 45 MSEK från Nutek och ett miljöstöd på 85 MSEK som beviljats av EU.
”Det är oerhört glädjande att vi kan nu kan göra den här investeringen och att vi samtidigt får möjlighet att bygga världens renaste målerianläggning,” säger Volvos koncernchef Leif Johansson.
Det nya måleriet kommer att få mycket låga utsläpp och låg miljöpåverkan tack vare satsningar på helt ny teknologi både vad gäller lackeringsmetod och färg. De totala utsläppen från måleriet kommer att vara 5-6 gånger lägre än vad som föreskrivs av EU för nya målerianläggningar och investeringen för miljöförbättrande teknik uppgår till drygt 245 MSEK.
Det av EU beviljade miljöstödet på samanlagt 85 MSEK utgör 35 % av de miljörelaterade investeringskostnaderna. Dessutom har Volvo nyligen fått 45 MSEK i regionalt investeringsbidrag av Nutek för denna investering.
