The Volvo Road Institute is the asphalt industry’s premier training school

At the Volvo Road Institute – established more than 45 years ago – crew members, supervisors, technicians and other interested road building personnel come to learn everything they need to know about asphalt paving and compaction.

The courses are both application and operation based. The two full time professional instructors at the Road Institute have nearly 60 years of combined experience and have been involved with many kinds of paving and compaction projects throughout North America.

The Road Institute serves the road building industry in North America from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and Phoenix, Arizona.

In addition to traditional applications instruction, the Road Institute provides courses on paver and compactor operation and maintenance, and an Automatic Grade and Slope System course for Blaw-Kontrol and TOPCON System V.

In all courses at the Road Institute, theory and practice are fully integrated. Class sizes are set to allow for optimum instructor/student ratio.  This truly enhances an ease of learning, rewarding hands-on experience, and meaningful work and social interaction with other paving professionals.  Students are awarded a certificate upon completion of the extensive training that prepares them with the knowledge and skills for a productive and successful future.
