Extended coverage makes managing uptime easier and more efficient

For all industrial off-road and genset applications, optimal uptime has become increasingly important. Avoiding unplanned, costly stops has become a prioritised area. Volvo Penta too has focused on uptime for a long time. Now, Volvo Penta takes another step towards making it even easier to manage and control engine – and machine – uptime. The new extended coverage programme, the IXC, is aimed at owners and users of installations with Volvo Penta engines.

Product quality has been a Volvo Penta hallmark for decades and customers have grown to expect reliable performance and long life from the green diesel engines. Through the years, the engines have been further complemented with more and more sophisticated service and support agreements in order to maximise uptime and minimise unplanned downtime.

“With our new Industrial Extended Coverage, IXC, we introduce a programme that allows operators and equipment manufacturers to not only guard themselves from long and costly downtimes in the long term, but also to tailor the agreement in accordance with specific conditions and requirements”, says Krikor Abraham at Volvo Penta Industrial Product Planning.

Predictability and control

The IXC applies when the Volvo Penta international limited warranty – or national warranties – has expired. It is based on three parameters: operating hours, number of years and components included. The basic objectives, and the primary user benefits, are predictability and control of cost.

With preventive maintenance packages that are custom made for each engine’s particular needs and working conditions, operators and manufacturers can take total control of upcoming operational costs.

Staying ahead

The basic thought behind the IXC is that it lets the operator stay ahead when it comes to controlling the engine operation costs. The IXC terms are flexible. You book the IXC when the engine is ordered, or latest three months after start of operations. You shape the coverage by selecting the appropriate period, the suitable operating hours/year and, finally, decide whether to cover all components or just the major ones – see table below.

During the limited warranty and extended coverage periods, all the operator must observe is that service is carried out according to the service protocol.

Growing demand from equipment manufacturers

Manufacturers of off-road and genset applications are constantly looking for new ways to improve their products’ performance and reliability. OEMs using Volvo Penta engines in their machines and installations have shown a great interest in the IXC.

With the IXC, Volvo Penta’s manufacturing customers can make already attractive products more valuable to the end-user and, by that, improve their offerings.

Focus on uptime

A key component of the IXC – and all Volvo Penta engines – is of course Volvo Penta Industrial’s global network of authorised service dealers who provide operators all over the world with comprehensive service and support. In the IXC programme, they will provide all the necessary preventive maintenance, because when focus is on uptime, local presence and rapid deliveries are the keys to success.
