The Logistics Operations Manager, referred to internally as the Business Team Leader-Materials will manage and support the efficient, safe and effective movement of materials within Production & Warehousing Operations guaranteeing timely delivery of inventory to the plant. Main activities and responsibilities for this role • Provides leadership, training and supervision to a team of Material Supervisors. • Collaborates with and supports assigned supervisory staff and other plant management in assigning, directing, reviewing, and monitoring work to maximize efficiency and productivity and drive continuous improvement. • Develops and implements cross-training plans to increase the knowledge, experience and capabilities of supervisory staff. • Effectively responds with urgency to issues affecting the delivery and movement of warehouse material to the production lines, ensuring maximum efficiency in the assembly and transfer of product. • Interfaces with plant management and other supervisory personnel on issues affecting quality, production, materials, engineering and product transfer. • Supports plant wide inventory accuracy initiatives. • Complies with all Company and Governmental policies, rules of conduct and regulations including OSHA, safety, environmental, and health and supports team in compliance with the same. • Ensures that Material Technicians have training and equipment necessary to perform their duties • Manages manpower needs and concerns including but not limited to overtime, absenteeism, discipline, and shutdown. • Implements corrective actions identified by key performance indicators as a means to improve overall equipment and manufacturing performance efficiency. • Directs and manages area of responsibility to meet and achieve Company goals. • Effectively collaborates with Logistics Engineering to drive process improvement changes and ensure process adherence through audits, employee engagement and buy-in • Champions Lean activities in assigned areas of responsibility, identifying waste and promoting continuous improvement in alignment with the Volvo Production System. • Works within a team environment that stresses employee participation and engagement. • Reviews daily key performance indicators, to include but not limited to on-time order fulfillment, pick completion volume, overtime management, Material Direct Runners and ensures a closed communication loop between Logistic, Paint and Assembly. • Drives a culture that is focused on continuous improvement, positive morale and exceptional levels of customer service. • Maintains SAP and all payroll reporting systems
Critical competencies and experience We are looking for a strong leader and team member with a continuous improvement mindset who will be committed to the teamwork environment through being a resourceful team player. Maintaining collaborative relationships with team members internal and external is key in creating a successful and strong team. Experience with decision making and influencing ability is key in being able to drive the implementation and necessary changes. Excellent communication skills will ease both team and cross functional work for allowing trustworthy network building. The ideal candidate for this position has a Bachelor’s degree in supply chain/operations management or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience, 5-10 years management experience in manufacturing/logistics environment, is creative and collaborative with excellent written and verbal communication skills, Has significant accomplishments managing cost, supply/ demand forecasting, and logistics, Demonstrated ability to lead and direct others, Actively support the company values (Safety, Fairness, Respect, Hard Work, and Long-Term Profitability), Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and management personnel to enhance teamwork and communication initiatives, Consistently adheres to and supports company policies and procedures, and safety regulations, Formal training in leadership, communication and people skills, Certification or formal training in Lean Manufacturing Methodology, Able to demonstrate a clear vision, global mind-set and successful people and culture leadership and integration in a local environment, Experience working in a lean manufacturing environment specifically with Mack Production Systems, Work experience requirement as department manager as well as working cross-functionally, Must have working knowledge of pull technology, total quality cultural environment and continuous improvement methods by waste elimination. Union relations experience is preferred.
