What attracted you to an internship with Volvo Group?
While I was studying for my master’s degree, we had a lecture from a Senior Vice President at Volvo Group who was really inspirational. She explained the Group’s strategic view of HR and I began to see there were so many possibilities here.
What do you think HR contributes to Volvo Group?
HR can seem invisible and it’s easy to misunderstand what we do. It’s about maintaining a healthy working environment and recognizing that people are what make this organization perform well.
What was the most valuable experience of your internship?
How important it is to dare to talk to people. Networking in a large organization like ours is really important. Successful networking means that when you have a problem, you’ll know who to ask.
The internship also taught me that not all HR staff have to be alike. There are many different approaches and the HR department here has room for all of them. I felt that I had come home in my professional life.
What tasks did you carry out during your internship?
We worked with systematic working environment measures and instigating actions to prevent discrimination. I was shadowing the staff in my department, as well as gathering data and preparing presentations.
Eventually you progressed from intern to fulltime employee. What does your current job involve?
I currently work with student relations, employee branding and exit interviews. My work is all about people and building relationships. If you can’t gain trust, you can’t do this job.
What motivates and excites you about your work?
I’m energized by my colleagues. Everyone is engaged and it’s obvious that we all want to contribute to our company’s success. I work in an environment where I’m valued.
What would tell anyone considering applying for an internship here?
Do it! You won’t regret it. There are so many possibilities here, things you couldn’t imagine. It will broaden your view of what you can achieve in the workplace. It’s an exciting time, with automation and transport solutions. If you want be part of something that will have a huge impact on the future, come to Volvo Group.
