Heat Transfer 3D Model Development for Exhaust Downpipe

What is our offer to you?

Imagine being surrounded everyday by a diverse, fun, and passionate group of colleagues who you not only enjoy working with but also enjoy eating lunch, having fika, and travelling with. Now imagine that you work with these colleagues on some of the most advanced powertrain technology in the world. Add that you are working with these colleagues on this advanced technology in a culture that promotes growth, collaboration, trust and is striving towards zero emissions in everything we do!

Are you ready to join our team and shape the future of the transportation industry together with us?

Description of thesis work

Aim: A Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) simulation study on EATS to investigate heat transfer in exhaust pipe to the ambient.

Scope of your mission
  • Investigation of heat loss to the ambient with different insulation materials on engine to EATS downpipe.
  • Evaluating different insulators.
  • Assessing the usage of combination of multiple insulators.
  • Evaluation and parametrization of the thickness of the insulation material effect on heat transfer.
  • Understanding the effect of change in pipe thickness and pipe length on overall heat loss.
  • Approximation of the effect of the wind (Truck’s velocity) on heat transfer and develop a correlation for different wind speeds.
Tools
  • Star CCM, Ansa.
Duration/Status
  • Period: 1 semester, 30 hp credits
  • Starting date: Flexible
  • Language: English
  • Number of students: Suitable for 1-2 students
  • Location: Volvo Group Trucks Technology (Powertrain Engineering), Lundby, Gothenburg, Sweden.
Who are you?
