US Trades & Customs Expert

Position Description
The customs specialist acts as an expert in US customs in order to secure the compliance of the company's import and export operations, while minimizing the risks and financial impacts. Communicates information with internal and external collaborators while coordinating priority management. The Specialist is responsible for standardizing, supporting and updating processes.

Principal Responsibilities

Direct and coordinate activities to support the following processes:
  • HS Tariff Classifications
  • Operational transactional services in support of:
    • FTA programs
    • Partner Government Agencies
    • Regulatory compliance initiatives
    • Reconciliation responsibilities adjustment
    • Special projects
  • Secure customs compliance for imports and exports
  • Development of Standard Operational Procedure
  • Establish importing procedures for new parts.
  • Act as primary contact with Customs Border Protection and Customs Broker
  • Conduct post audits of entries for all imports completed by broker.
  • Conduct internal audits to verify Customs compliance
  • Identify and Administer refunds/amends with the customs broker.
  • Liaison with Customs Border Protection (CBP) and other government departments based on inquiries, new regulations and initiatives to support clients and the business
  • Set and provide productivity reports (KPI), and other performance metrics
  • Determine areas needing process improvements.
  • Continuous improvement

Knowledge and Skills
  • Diploma in Customs Administrative or International Trade &/or Certified Customs Specialist Qualified (CCS)
  • Five years experience dealing with Imports and Customs Border Protection & Customs Broker
  • General knowledge of Harmonized Tariff codes and US Customs regulations
  • Strong organizational abilities and ability to prioritize workload
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Sound judgment/know when to escalate
  • Good collaborative leadership approach;
  • Possess a sense of urgency;
  • Strong time and priority management skills;
  • Be an organized person;
  • Results oriented;
  • Good communicator and team player;
