Intern: Logistics Engineering (Summer 2024)

Volvo Group Trucks Operations (GTO) is the truck industrial entity within the Volvo Group responsible for Truck manufacturing, including Cab & Vehicle Assembly, Powertrain Production, Logistics Services, Parts Distribution and Remanufacturing. Hagerstown’s group function is Powertrain Production. Powertrain production is one of the world's largest manufacturers of heavy-duty diesel engines for commercial vehicles. Powertrain production provides diesel engines and transmission systems to the Volvo Group Business Areas.

Position Description

We are currently looking for a student to work with our Logistics team as a Logistics Engineer. The student should be prepared to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment; gaining experience and knowledge in various aspects of engineering. As a valued member of the Logistics team within GTO, the student will have the opportunity to work directly with engineering focusing on supply chain, material handling, warehouse storage and lean manufacturing. GTO’s goal is to contribute to the student’s development, as well as providing an opportunity for the student to work in a business environment within the manufacturing industry. This position will report to the Logistics Engineering Team Leader.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Record, analyze and evaluate issues affecting the timely delivery of parts and inventory levels; reports on trends and other data utilized in root cause analyses affecting the timely transfer of finished goods to the customer
  • Support and develop Lean Material Flow principles and initiatives by participating in Kaizen activities throughout the facility
  • Contribute to material layout and delivery route proposals by utilizing the “Go and See” approach on the shop floor and interacting with Material Handlers
  • Develop, maintain, and update the logistics processes and delivery systems to support and enhance plant production capabilities
  • Identify time critical material handling and delivery issues and execute a resolution plan in a timely and successful manner

Internship Education and Program Requirements:
  • Applicant must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in Supply Chain, Mathematics or Business (with Technical Focus) at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours of undergraduate studies prior to the start of the co-op/internship.
  • Interns may work up to 40 hours per week during the summer term.
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75.
  • Strong communication skills.

At the Volvo Group, we strive for a clear, transparent, and straightforward compensation approach, motivating you to contribute to the company’s growth. For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $16.00 - $46.00. The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study.
